At sea, several miles off the coast, we have more than 20 locations where this and other seabirds circulate, allowing us to observe them with 100% success over the past 15 years of activity.
On our 6-hour expeditions several miles offshore, we commonly observe: Monteiro's storm-petrel (Oceanodroma monteiroi), Wilson's storm-petrel (Oceanites oceanicus), great shearwater (Puffinus gravis), sooty shearwater (Puffinus puffinus), and little shearwater (Puffinus baroli).
Occasionally, during these observations, we are fortunate to spot cetaceans, namely sperm whales, dolphins, etc.
Monteiro's storm-petrel (Oceanodroma monteiroi) is one of the most sought-after seabirds by birdwatchers in the Azores. Difficult to observe, this species has dark brown plumage with a white band and a forked tail. In flight, it alternates wingbeats and gliding close to the sea surface, which allows for observation and photography far from shore.
